Gale de boue cheval

Understanding mud fever

Mud fever , or pastern dermatitis , is a skin condition of microbial origin, often linked to the combined presence of bacteria, fungi and opportunistic parasites .
It affects the skin of the pasterns, where moisture, mud or friction weakens the skin barrier.
We observe crusts , redness , sometimes oozing and, in more severe cases, swelling of the limb or lymphangitis .

Ozone allows intervention here without irritating the skin , by cleansing the tissues and promoting the natural regeneration of the epidermis .
It offers a non-invasive, effective solution that respects the skin sensitivity of horses.

Gale de boue croutes

"Crust" phase

This phase corresponds to the appearance of small dry or adherent scabs, sometimes slightly oozing.

They can be isolated or extended over the pastern and fetlock.

In most cases, Ozone Mud Guard is sufficient to treat the area and restore the skin's natural elasticity.

Gale de boue avec lymphœdème

Mud fever with lymphedema/lymphangitis

In some cases, mud fever is accompanied by swelling of the limb ( lymphangitis or lymphedema ).

The limb becomes hot and sensitive, and the horse may experience locomotor discomfort.
This type of complication is common in draft horses or those living in humid environments.

In this case, gaseous ozone bagging provides valuable assistance in stimulating microcirculation and draining inflammation .

Natural treatment protocol for mud fever

The protocol depends on the condition of the skin and the presence or absence of edema.
It always aims to cleanse without irritating , promote healing and preserve skin elasticity .

The steps of the protocol

  1. Initial phase: clean the area (if there is oozing or bleeding)

When scabs are moist, oozing or slightly bloody, start with 3 days of application of Ozone Super Guard .

This treatment, based on saturated ozonated oil, works deep down to destroy pathogens and calm inflammation.

Apply a thin layer directly to the affected areas, without massaging : the product adheres on its own and penetrates naturally.

  2. Regeneration phase: transition to Ozone Mud Guard

After 2 to 3 days of treatment with Super Guard, as soon as the skin is no longer oozing, switch to the application of Ozone Mud Guard .

This treatment, in the form of ozonated mud, is specially designed for pasterns:

    - it cleanses residual scabs,
    - preserves the skin's elasticity ,
    - and promotes a smooth and tension-free regeneration .

Apply a thin layer daily to the dry, clean area, without rubbing.

Leave to act naturally, then rinse with lukewarm water if necessary before reapplying.

  3. In case of associated swelling or lymphangitis

Use gaseous ozone bagging to stimulate microcirculation and promote tissue drainage.

Enclose the limb in an airtight bag and diffuse the ozone for 10 to 15 minutes.

This treatment can be repeated daily until the swelling disappears.

In draft horses, this method is particularly effective in activating lymphatic return and accelerating recovery .

After

Before/After treatment protocol for mud fever

After a few days of treatment, the scabs detach naturally, the skin regains its suppleness and the inflammation subsides.

The pastern texture becomes smooth and elastic again, without cracks or pulling.

Ozone Super Guard allows for the gentle cleansing of weeping wounds.

Ozone Mud Guard maintains suppleness and promotes healthy healing.

Gaseous ozone bagging helps reduce swelling and activates circulation.

No other antiseptic should be used in conjunction with the treatment.
